What Does It Cost to Rewire a House in Ireland?
TL;DR
Rewiring cost depends on the size and age of the house and whether it is a full or partial rewire. It is always quoted per job after a survey, with a fixed price so there are no surprises.
Why rewiring is priced per job
There is no honest single price for a rewire, because houses differ so much. A compact modern-ish house with accessible floors and attic is a very different job to a period home with solid walls, no attic access and old wiring buried everywhere.
That is why we survey first and give a fixed price for your specific house, rather than a per-point guess that balloons once we start.
What affects the cost
- The size of the house and number of rooms
- Full rewire versus partial (say, upstairs only)
- How accessible the floors, walls and attic are
- The number of sockets, lights and circuits you want
- Whether you want us to plaster and make good, or leave that for a decorator
Full versus partial rewire
A full rewire replaces all the cabling, sockets, switches and the consumer unit, and brings earthing and bonding up to standard. It is the right call for old rubber or fabric wiring, or where there is no earth.
A partial rewire tackles the worst part, often the upstairs or a specific circuit, and can be a sensible staged approach where budget is tight. On the survey we will tell you honestly whether partial is enough or a false economy.
How the work is staged
Done properly, a rewire is planned and staged so you can usually stay in the house. We work room by room, keep power on where we can, and chase cables in carefully rather than tearing the place apart.
Every rewire finishes with a full certificate, which you will want for insurance and for any future sale.

Questions, answered
How much does it cost to rewire a house in Ireland?
It is quoted per job after a survey, because houses vary so much. We give a fixed price for your specific house so there are no surprises once we start.
How long does a rewire take?
A typical three-bed takes from several days to a couple of weeks depending on scope and access. We give you a realistic timeline in the quote.
Do I need to move out?
Usually not. We stage the work and keep power on where possible, so most families stay in the house throughout.
How do I know if my house needs rewiring?
Old rubber or fabric cabling, no earth, a fuse board with no RCDs, or frequent tripping are all signs. Our guide on the signs your house needs rewiring covers what to look for.
